Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini was born October 21, 1995, in Tarzana, a Los Angeles neighbourhood at the western end of the San Fernando Valley, to South African Zulu actor and dancer Dumisani Dlamini (best known for the original cast of the musical Sarafina!) and Jewish-American painter Deborah Sawyer.
