Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler was born May 8, 1975, in Madrid to the Spanish singer Julio Iglesias and the Filipino-Spanish socialite and journalist Isabel Preysler. The parents separated when Enrique was three; after an ETA threat against the family in 1982, Julio relocated his children to Miami, and Enrique was raised in the Coral Gables and South Beach corners of the city by a nanny and his maternal grandparents while his father toured. He attended Gulliver Preparatory School and enrolled at the University of Miami as a business student in the early nineties before dropping out to pursue music full-time, against his father's explicit wishes.
