Maroon 5 traces back to Brentwood School in west Los Angeles in the mid-1990s, where Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick formed a guitar band called Kara's Flowers that signed to Reprise Records as teenagers and released a single album, The Fourth World, in 1997. The record did not sell, Reprise dropped the band, and the four members went to college — Levine and Carmichael to Five Towns College in New York.
