Anthony 'Romeo' Santos grew up in the South Bronx in the 1980s and 1990s, the eldest son of a Dominican father from Moca and a Puerto Rican mother from Aibonito, in a household where Antony Santos, Luis Vargas, Raulín Rodríguez, and Blas Durán bachata records ran on rotation alongside the salsa romántica, merengue, and English-language R&B and hip-hop that defined Bronx street radio of the era.
