About Shreya Ghoshal
Shreya Ghoshal was born on March 12, 1984 in Berhampore, West Bengal, and raised in Rawatbhata, Rajasthan, where her father worked at the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station. She began classical Hindustani vocal training at age four and later trained under Mukta Bhide in Mumbai, building a khayal, thumri, and bhajan foundation that has structured her Bollywood playback voice. She won Sa Re Ga Ma Pa at sixteen; Sanjay Leela Bhansali signed her for Devdas the same year, and the 2002 release made her a national playback voice on Bairi Piya, Silsila Ye Chahat Ka, and Dola Re Dola. Her Filmfare Best Female Playback win at eighteen remains the youngest at which the award has been received. The National Film Award for Devdas launched a run that has produced four further National Awards — Jab We Met (2007), Antaheen (2008, Bengali), Mausam (2011), and Daam Dum (2015, Tamil) — uniquely across four Indian languages. Her catalogue spans the Bhansali soundtracks (Devdas through Gangubai Kathiawadi), the Aashiqui 2 cycle (Tum Hi Ho, Sunn Raha Hai, Chahun Main Ya Naa), AR Rahman collaborations on Guru, Raavan, and Jab Tak Hai Jaan, the Pritam cycle through Jab We Met and Tamasha, and a parallel Bengali-cinema career through Antaheen, Iti Mrinalini, and Mishawr Rawhoshyo. Beyond playback she has released Bengali solo albums (Bendhechhi Beena, Bhalobasha), Hindi Krishna Bhajans, and the Urdu ghazal collection Humnasheen. She was the first Indian playback singer installed at Madame Tussauds in Delhi. She married Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya in 2015; their son Devyaan was born in 2021.
