About Sunidhi Chauhan
Nidhi Chauhan was born on August 14, 1983 in Delhi, India, into a family with deep ties to Hindustani classical and devotional music traditions. She began training in Hindustani classical music at age four under Ustad Hafiz Ahmed Khan, with parallel exposure to Bollywood-playback repertoire through the Delhi private-concert circuit that her father — actor Dushyant Chauhan — placed her into. Her professional debut came at age eight at a 1991 Hari Om Sharan concert in Delhi. The career-defining moment came in 1996 when she won the inaugural season of Meri Awaz Suno on Doordarshan, hosted by Anu Malik, at age twelve, establishing her as a next-generation playback voice. Her first Bollywood credit came the same year on Shastra (1996) for Kalyanji-Anandji, but the breakthrough came with Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi from Mast (1999), composed by Anand-Milind under the Ram Gopal Varma banner. Mehboob Mere from Fiza (2000), composed by Anu Malik, won her the first of multiple Filmfare RD Burman Awards for New Music Talent. Bhage Re Mann from Chameli (2003), composed by Sandesh Shandilya for the Sudhir Mishra film starring Kareena Kapoor, became a defining track of the early-2000s Bollywood female-vocal catalogue. Dhoom Machale from Dhoom (2004), composed by Pritam, pulled her catalogue into the Bollywood-action-soundtrack mainstream; the Dhoom-franchise contributions — Crazy Kiya Re (Dhoom 2, 2006), Kamli (Dhoom 3, 2013) — extended her presence in one of the most commercially successful Bollywood franchises of the era.
