Stand-up comedy venues in New York — capacity tiers
New York has venues for every comedy format, from intimate open-mic rooms to arena-tour stops. The right room depends on three things: expected attendance, format (single headliner, showcase, open mic), and recording plans.
Under 250 cap — club rooms and bar showcases
Best for debut acts, open mics, showcases, and roast battles. Rental in New York typically runs USD 600–1,800 with house sound included. Bar revenue often offsets part of the rental for the venue.
250–600 cap — mid-size theatres & banquet halls
The sweet spot for regional headliners and known local acts with a built-in audience. New York venues in this range run USD 1,800–5,000 for a weekend night, often with stage and lighting bundled.
600–2,500 cap — large theatres
For touring national-tier comics with strong New York awareness. Beacon Theatre · Apollo Theater · Radio City Music Hall (small config) fit this tier. Premium AV is standard; recording is allowed with notice. Rental ranges USD 5,000–14,000.
2,500+ cap — arena-tour stops
For major touring headliners (Dave Chappelle / Bill Burr / Trevor Noah tier), Madison Square Garden split configurations from ~5,000 cap. Pricing is quoted directly with the venue based on routing and date availability.
