Stand-up comedy venues in Toronto — capacity tiers
Toronto has venues for every comedy format, from intimate open-mic rooms to arena-tour stops. The right room depends on three things: expected attendance, format (single headliner, showcase, open mic), and recording plans.
Under 250 cap — club rooms and bar showcases
Best for debut acts, open mics, showcases, and roast battles. Rental in Toronto typically runs CAD 500–1,500 with house sound included. Bar revenue often offsets part of the rental for the venue.
250–600 cap — mid-size theatres & banquet halls
The sweet spot for regional headliners and known local acts with a built-in audience. Toronto venues in this range run CAD 1,500–4,000 for a weekend night, often with stage and lighting bundled.
600–2,500 cap — large theatres
For touring national-tier comics with strong Toronto awareness. Massey Hall · Roy Thomson Hall · Meridian Hall fit this tier. Premium AV is standard; recording is allowed with notice. Rental ranges CAD 4,000–10,000.
2,500+ cap — arena-tour stops
For major touring headliners (Russell Peters / Trevor Noah / Bill Burr tier), Scotiabank Arena split configurations from ~5,000 cap. Pricing is quoted directly with the venue based on routing and date availability.
