About Asake

Ahmed Ololade was born in Lagos, Nigeria and grew up between the mainland Lagos neighbourhoods that have produced most of the city's defining street-pop voices. He recorded as Asake from the late 2010s, posting freestyles and short videos to Instagram and YouTube through 2018, 2019, and 2020 without a label deal, building a small but loyal Lagos following on the strength of his Yoruba-language wordplay and the dance clips that travelled faster than the audio.
