About John Summit

John Schuster grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago, studied accounting at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and worked as a CPA in the city for several years before turning music into a full-time job. By his own account in interviews with Mixmag, Billboard and Rolling Stone, the pivot happened in stages rather than all at once. He began DJing Chicago clubs and warehouse parties on weekends in the late 2010s under the John Summit name, building a local profile around the city's tech-house scene before quitting the day job in 2020.
