Christopher Comstock was born in Philadelphia in May 1992 and began producing electronic music as a teenager under various aliases before launching the Marshmello project in 2015. The early Marshmello records were future-bass and trap-influenced instrumental tracks released free or cheap on SoundCloud and through the dance label Monstercat, and the project's first commercial breakthrough came with the 2016 single Alone, which charted in multiple countries and remains one of the most-streamed instrumental electronic tracks of the era.
