Victoria Concerts, Royals & Live Events

The Inner Harbour is Victoria's central event district, anchored by the Royal Theatre on Broughton Street, the McPherson Playhouse on Centennial Square, the Royal BC Museum, and the Empress Hotel. The harbour boardwalk programs free buskers, music, and outdoor performances daily from May through September, peaking at the Buskers Festival in July and Symphony Splash on the first Sunday of August. Restaurants along Wharf Street and Government Street book up fast on event nights. Parking is metered, with the Bastion Square and View Street parkades within a five-minute walk of every major venue.

Cook Street Village, running roughly between McKenzie and Park Boulevard, is Victoria's neighbourhood bar and small live music strip. Pubs, bistros, and small live music rooms line both sides of the street, busy past midnight on weekends. The Beagle Pub, Moka House, and a handful of casual restaurants handle pre-show crowds. The village sits between downtown and Beacon Hill Park, walkable from the harbour in fifteen minutes. Free summer programming at Beacon Hill Park draws weekend crowds. BC Transit Route 11 runs the strip frequently.

Oak Bay, immediately east of downtown, is Victoria's boutique residential neighbourhood with a quieter event slate. The Oak Bay Beach Hotel programs occasional live music and theme nights. The Oak Bay Bowls Club and small community venues host local performances. The Oak Bay Tea Party in early June is the annual neighborhood festival with rides, music, and food. Restaurants along Oak Bay Avenue lean upscale and casual, busy on weekends. Walkable in about thirty minutes from downtown, or a short BC Transit ride.

Esquimalt, west of downtown across the Johnson Street Bridge, is home to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre — Victoria's main arena and the home of the Victoria Royals (WHL). The 7,000-seat venue handles arena tours, hockey, and major touring shows. Parking around the arena is plentiful and reasonably priced on event nights. Restaurants along Esquimalt Road serve pre-game crowds. BC Transit Route 24 connects the area to downtown. The CFB Esquimalt naval base anchors the western end of the entire neighborhood.

The Victoria Day Parade on the Monday before May 24 closes Douglas Street for a marching band, military, and community parade — one of the oldest in Western Canada. Patios across the Inner Harbour, Cook Street Village, and Oak Bay reopen for the season. The Victoria Symphony wraps its winter season at the Royal Theatre. Pacific FC home games begin at Starlight Stadium in Langford.

The Oak Bay Tea Party in early June kicks off summer in the eastern neighborhood with rides, music, and food. The Belfry Theatre and Pacific Opera Victoria wrap their winter seasons. Patios on Wharf Street and Government Street are at full capacity. The Royal Theatre transitions to summer touring programming. Days are long and the harbour boardwalk runs free buskers and music daily.

The Victoria International Buskers Festival in late July fills the Inner Harbour with street performers from around the world over four days. The Bard & Banker, Hermann's, and the pubs in Bastion Square run packed weekend slates. Outdoor concerts at the Royal BC Museum plaza, Centennial Square, and Beacon Hill Park continue most weekends. Tall Ships sometimes calls at the harbour in summer.

Symphony Splash on the first Sunday of August brings tens of thousands to the Inner Harbour for a free outdoor Victoria Symphony concert with fireworks — the year's biggest single event. The Buskers Festival energy carries through the first half of the month. Outdoor harbour programming continues into late August. The HarbourCats baseball season is in its closing weeks at Wilson's Group Stadium.

Rifflandia, the multi-day indie music festival, runs across downtown venues in mid-September. Victoria Royals (WHL) pre-season home games start at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The Victoria Symphony and Pacific Opera Victoria open their fall seasons at the Royal Theatre. The Belfry Theatre opens its mainstage season in Fernwood. Patios still hold strong through to the end of the month.

The Royal Victoria Marathon, on the Sunday of Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, brings runners from across North America and closes the seafront route. Victoria Royals home schedule is in full swing at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Belfry Theatre and Pacific Opera Victoria mainstage productions continue. Halloween events fill bars in the Inner Harbour and Cook Street Village on the weekend closest to the 31st.

Victoria Symphony, Pacific Opera Victoria, and the Belfry are deep into their fall seasons. Holiday programming begins to ramp up across the Royal Theatre and McPherson Playhouse. Royals home schedule continues. The Truffles Catering Christmas Craft Fair and other holiday markets begin at the Victoria Conference Centre. Christmas at Butchart Gardens decorations and rehearsals are in final preparation.

Christmas at Butchart Gardens runs nightly from December 1 through early January with lights, a brass band, and outdoor skating. The Victoria Symphony's holiday programming runs at the Royal Theatre. Pacific Opera Victoria stages a holiday production. New Year's Eve programming runs across downtown hotels, the Inner Harbour, and Bastion Square pubs. The Bard & Banker hosts Celtic Christmas music nightly through the month.
