About Jassi Gill
Jaswinder Singh Gill was born on November 26, 1988 in Jalandhar, Punjab, into a Jat Sikh family rooted in the central Doaba belt — the same Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur corridor that has produced a disproportionate share of contemporary Punjabi-pop and Pollywood talent. He released his first commercial single Batchmate through Speed Records in 2011, with the 2013 single Bapu Zimidar the breakthrough moment — crossing five million YouTube views inside the first month. Lancer (2014, Speed Records with Desi Crew production) became the defining single of the early career and one of the most-streamed Punjabi-pop tracks of the mid-2010s; the car-culture aesthetic became inseparable from the Jassi Gill brand and continues to anchor every live show. Surma Surma (2018, with Mickey Singh) extended the catalogue into contemporary Punjabi-pop; Done Done (2019, featuring Karan Aujla) pulled him into the Punjabi-rap-adjacent audience and remains one of the rare cross-generational singles bridging the older Punjabi-pop fan base and the post-2020 Punjabi-rap streaming audience. Naina, Patiala Peg, Dil Tutda, Yaaran Da Katchup, Nakhre, Tutda Hi Jaave, Att Karti, and Backbone have continued at a sustained pace across the decade. The Pollywood film career began with Dulla Bhatti in 2016; the 2018 lead in Daana Paani opposite Simi Chahal, directed by Tarnvir Singh Jagpal, established him as a viable lead actor. Panga (2020, directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and starring Kangana Ranaut) gave him his first Bollywood crossover credit; Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar (2021, Dibakar Banerjee) added a second Bollywood appearance alongside Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor; and the Dunki ensemble (2023, Rajkumar Hirani, led by Shah Rukh Khan) placed Gill in the broader Bollywood-mainstream tier. He continues to balance the singing catalogue, the Pollywood lead-actor run, and the Western Canadian and US diaspora touring circuit.
