Thomas Rhett Akins Jr. was born March 30, 1990 in Valdosta, Georgia and raised in Hendersonville, Tennessee — the lake-town suburb on the north side of Nashville that has been the gravitational center of his life ever since his father moved the family there in the early 1990s to chase a Music Row recording career. Rhett Akins Sr. signed with Decca Nashville and put a handful of singles on the country chart through the mid-and-late nineties, then pivoted to songwriting full-time in the early 2000s as part of the Peach Pickers writing trio with Dallas Davidson and Ben Hayslip — a group that has co-written some of the biggest country radio singles of the past two decades.
