Things to do in Quebec City this weekend
A standard Quebec City weekend starts with the Vieux-Québec. Friday night, the lower town's Quartier Petit Champlain and Place-Royale fill with street performers, restaurant patios spill onto cobblestone streets, and Théâtre du Petit Champlain runs francophone music and theatre in the 350-seat hall.
The upper town's Capitole de Québec on Place D'Youville handles the bigger Friday-night bookings — Broadway tours, music revues, comedy specials. On nights with a Vidéotron Centre arena concert, head out to Boulevard Wilfrid-Hamel early since traffic in and out builds fast on the autoroute Robert-Bourassa.
Saturday afternoon is a Plains of Abraham day — joggers, picnickers, the Musée des Beaux-Arts du Québec, and through summer the free afternoon concerts and family programming. Saturday night swings back to Saint-Roch for the indie-music scene on rue Saint-Joseph: Imperial Bell, Le Cercle, Le Pantoum, plus the bar circuit along the strip.
Sunday is the slowest day on the city's calendar but still reliable for brunch on Avenue Cartier in the Montcalm neighbourhood, an afternoon at the Grand Théâtre's classical matinee, or a walk along the Promenade Samuel-De Champlain. In winter, swap outdoor afternoon plans for a Remparts QMJHL game at Vidéotron Centre.
