Winnipeg weekends start early. Friday after-work patios along Osborne Village and the Exchange District fill up by 5 pm, and the first theater curtains at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and Prairie Theatre Exchange go up around 7.

Concerts at the Burton Cummings Theatre typically run doors at 7 with headliners around 8:30, while arena shows at Canada Life Centre start between 7:30 and 8. Saturday is the heaviest night of the week — expect every major venue to be booked, plus a Jets or Bombers home game stacked on top in season.

Sunday afternoons skew toward matinees, family programming, and brunch shows along Corydon. Free outdoor events run on a strong seasonal cycle.

From May through September, The Forks programs free concerts, dance, and cultural festivals along the riverwalk almost every weekend. The Cube outdoor stage at The Forks runs a steady summer slate.

In winter, the river trail at The Forks opens for skating and the Christmas at the Forks programming runs through December. The festival calendar maps the year quickly.

Festival du Voyageur shuts down St. Boniface in February.

The Winnipeg Folk Festival takes over Birds Hill Park in early July. Folklorama runs 14 days across 40-plus cultural pavilions in August.
